For more than 25 years Jörg Sandmeier has captivated and inspired audiences with his tasteful and fascinating saxophone playing. As one of the few Swiss saxophonists he performed on stage alongside such musicians as Quincy Jones, Michael Bublé, The Manhattan Transfer, Al Jarreau, Mick Hucknall (from Simply Red), Patti Austin, Dave Grusin, Lee Ritenour, Jacob Collier, James Ingram, John JR Robinson, Curtis Stigers, Nikky Yanofski and many others.
While still traveling and performing in Switzerland, he has been living in Montreal for a few years now and has since fallen in love with the city and its fantastic music and cultural scene.
Originally grown up in Zurich/Switzerland, he studied saxophone, composition and arrangement at the Swiss Jazz School in Bern, graduating with a master’s degree in 2001. He has further trained in workshops with saxophonists such as legendary Jerry Bergonzi, Dave Liebmann and Bob Mintzer and is a two-time winner of the “Chrysler Jazz Award“ at Montreux Jazz Festival.
Since 2002 Jörg Sandmeier has been saxophonist in the renowned orchestra of Swiss bandleader Pepe Lienhard and has played with this formation over 800 concerts, tours and TV shows throughout Europe. During this time he was able to perform twice with legendary Quincy Jones at the Montreux Jazz Festival and to accompany the great Austrian singer and entertainer Udo Jürgens on many of his tours.
He is well known for his musical versatility, whether as a live musician on stage, in the recording studio, at theater and musical shows or in his work as a saxophone instructor.
