Omar Diadji, drummer and percussionist. He was born in Dakar, where he started playing the drums under the infuence of his good friend Dacko Falla. Dako was the person that initiated him in the drumming world, and since then Omar cultivates his passion for music by learning in a self-taught manner. He has been lucky to know and live with great musicians of the band Xalat (of Saly Mbour), who gave him the opportunity to practice in their studio with their drumset and showed him the way in the beginning. In 2004 he had his frst band, Kanes Groupe, with which he played mostly in hotels; since then he has played with several other bands in Senegal.
In the year 2006 he travelled for the frst time to Barcelona. It was there where he really developed his knowledge, his experience and his musical skills, and he studied enin the “Escuela de Música Moderna de Badalona”, with the great Tito Busquets. He played and recorded with many bands of diferent styles. His frst band was with the great muscian Kwame Adzraku John; singer, composer and drummer of the generation of Fela Kutti! He showed him many of the secrets of the drums. Between 2006 and 2013, Omar played with several bands, among which Kwame Afro Vives, Gnawa Fusión, Calle Sol, One Word, Ngomez Nokass, Nakany Kanté, Massara Traoré, Nino Galissa, Chamito Sound, La Fama Street y Papa Scandy.
He has recorded with Nakany Kanté, Massara Traoré, Calle Sol and One Word. In 2010 he did his frst international tour with Chamito Sound around Europe, playing in big festivals. Since then he has done many tours with diferent bands.
In 2013 he settled in Switzerland, where he also had the opportunity to play with great musicians in big stages. He has played wih Claudia Masika, Bouye Band, Sonambique, Gabriel Palachi, Justina Lee Brown, Spirit of Hope Gospelchor, Kara Sylla Ka, Elijah Salomón, Jeo Rain, Dust of Soul, Chamito Sound, Chado Evans, Andra Borlo, Alina Amuri, Soul Maniacs, Carmatango, René Simón Pietri, Madina das Spielweyd, Juan & Juan, Yatachi, Pablo Allende, SR Reyes and Ishantu, among others. He has recorded with Claudia Masika, Bouye Band, Sonambique, Swipe Right Matt, The Ragtag Roots, Madina das Spielweyd, René Simón Pietri, Elijah Salomón and Carmatango.
His biggest infuences and idols are Kwame Adzraku John, Pape Mbodji, Dako Fall, Mokhtar Samba, Hernesto Simpson y Paco Sery. Omar is made of rhythm, he is the embodiment of beat and groove. He is versatile, has an impressive ease and speed of learning, plays from African music to Latin music, Jazz, Latin jazz, rumba, famenco, rock, reggae, Samba, Bossa Nova, pop, funk, ska, etc.
